Police Uncover Large Amounts of Drugs and Weapons During 'Cannabis-Poppy-2021' Operation

During the 'Cannabis-Poppy-2021' comprehensive operational-preventive measure, police apprehended a 30-year-old man from Yerevan. A personal search revealed three polyethylene packages containing white crystalline substances, a pipe, and a jewelry scale. The apprehended individual admitted that the substances were methamphetamine. This was reported by the police's press service.

It was discovered that the methamphetamine was regularly supplied to him by a 46-year-old resident of Yerevan through his 24-year-old son. On September 2, police apprehended the 46-year-old man, his 24-year-old son, and a 44-year-old man on suspicion of drug possession, use, and trafficking along the Artashat highway. According to the police report, a search of the 44-year-old man revealed 0.29 grams of a greenish substance, a burnt glass dropper, and a homemade glass pipe. The man stated that the substance was marijuana and that he had used the pipe for smoking crystal. The law enforcement had reasonable suspicions that the crystal had been supplied to him by the apprehended 46-year-old man, which was confirmed.

Police also had additional information regarding the criminal activities of the 46-year-old man. As a result of the actions taken, it was established that he stored various types of drugs in different locations, as well as weapons and ammunition. The man confessed and pointed out the hiding place, which was the basement of one of the buildings on Vilnius Street. According to the police, from that location, law enforcement uncovered 983 grams of methamphetamine, a 'Makarov' pistol with 7 loaded cartridges, 7 9mm cartridges, a loaded rifle magazine with 7 cartridges, a silver pistol, a 3-cartridge pistol magazine, an 'AKM' assault rifle, an 'RPK' machine gun, 4 grenades, a container loaded with 45 cartridges, and 24 magazines for the assault rifle, each loaded with 30 cartridges, a suppressor for the assault rifle, 56 cartridges for the assault rifle, 5 signal rockets, 3 'F-1' grenades, 1 'RGD' grenade, 4 grenade detonators, a bulletproof vest, chemical formulas, doses, and a ledger containing names and amounts of money.

A search of his residence also revealed 14.28 grams of methamphetamine, 6.82 grams of opium, 11 grams of marijuana, a 'Saiga' assault rifle with 16 cartridges, 2 magazines loaded with 19 cartridges, and 33 cartridges for a smoothbore shotgun. The 46-year-old man stated that he had brought the weapons and ammunition from Artsakh and had distributed the drugs to various individuals. Expert examinations have been ordered. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
