Erdogan to Collaborate with Taliban Movement

During a phone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated the necessity of engaging in cooperation with the Taliban movement to prevent an increase in migrant flows. This was reported by the Turkish leader's administration.

“President Erdogan emphasized the need to continue cooperation with the Taliban movement for ensuring humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan; otherwise, it is necessary to expect a strengthening of migration pressure,” the statement said.

Erdogan highlighted the urgent need to start negotiations on the normalization of the customs union between the EU and Turkey, as well as the migration agreement, without preconditions, the report added.

A month ago, the Taliban intensified their attacks on government forces. On August 15, the militants entered the capital and announced the following day that the war in Afghanistan was over, and that the form of government would be clarified in the near future. In the night of August 31, U.S. military personnel left Kabul airport, ending nearly 20 years of American military presence in Afghanistan.

On September 6, the Taliban announced that Panjshir was the last of Afghanistan's 34 provinces to come under their control after fighting, and the next day they announced the composition of Afghanistan's interim government. It will be led by Mohammad Hassan Akhund, who held the seat of the Minister of Foreign Affairs during the Taliban's first rule and was under UN sanctions, according to RIA Novosti.
