CSTO to Equip Collective Forces with Modern Weapons

The resources of the CSTO member countries are sufficient to prevent the mass infiltration of militants from Afghanistan into neighboring countries. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov during a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on military-economic cooperation of CSTO countries, according to RIA Novosti.

He noted that the mass infiltration of refugees from Afghanistan into neighboring countries has increased. This is interconnected with direct threats to the security of Central Asian states and could lead to destabilization of the region.

“I consider it extremely important to accelerate the preparatory work for signing a program to equip the CSTO rapid response collective forces with modern weapons, military and special equipment, as well as special means,” the deputy prime minister stated.

Additionally, he mentioned that the situation in Afghanistan should remain a focus of attention for the CSTO.
