Arthur Aleksanyan and Karapet Chalyan Will Not Participate in Wrestling World Championships: Who Will Compete?

Armenian wrestlers Arthur Aleksanyan and Karapet Chalyan will not participate in the World Wrestling Championships held in Norway. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by the national team coach Gevorg Aleksanyan.

This is the first time that a World Championship is being held in wrestling after the Olympic Games. This time, the Olympic cycle lasted not four, but five years. This circumstance played a significant role in holding the World Championship. It is clear that many wrestlers who participated in the Olympic Games might miss the upcoming tournament due to fatigue.

“Of course, fatigue plays a role in Arthur and Karapet not participating in the World Championship. But the main reason is the injuries of our wrestlers. Arthur Aleksanyan's injury (a muscle tear) from the semifinals in Tokyo has not yet healed. Karapet Chalyan also competed with an injury and has not fully recovered. For this reason, we decided to give both of our wrestlers a rest to recover and restore themselves. The Olympic preparation cycle this time is shorter (3 years instead of 4), so it is very important to think about the future now,” said Aleksanyan.

Unlike the aforementioned wrestlers, freestyle wrestlers Arsen Harutyunyan and Vazgen Tevanyan, who faced setbacks in the Tokyo Olympics, will participate in the competition taking place in the capital of Norway. In addition to them, the Armenian freestyle national team will also include Arman Andreasyan and Armen Avagyan.
