Who is Behind the Case of Aghvan Hovsepyan
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: New details have emerged regarding the events surrounding the former chairman of the Investigative Committee of Armenia and former prosecutor general Aghvan Hovsepyan.
According to an official statement, A. Hovsepyan has been charged with legalizing especially large assets, totaling 1,299,404,414 AMD (money laundering), through several episodes. But why has the pursuit of Hovsepyan begun now? After all, none of the charges are new. The actions in question date back to 2004-2013, during which he was reportedly involved in the management of several private companies engaged in entrepreneurial activities. Additionally, he received a bribe of 190,000,000 AMD and committed fraud resulting in the theft of particularly large assets amounting to 800,000,000 AMD.
According to information obtained by ArmLur.am, testimony against Aghvan Hovsepyan has been provided by one of his close friends, businessman Yura Garibyan, known as Shanti, who spoke about a plot of land. Furthermore, another witness against him has been his other close friend, Arshavir Sargsyan, who has been involved in the construction of mini-hydroelectric plants.
We have also obtained further details: the events surrounding Hovsepyan are linked to former Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan. The reason is that Avinyan's father and Aghvan Hovsepyan are close, and according to widespread rumors, Avinyan had helped and facilitated the lack of criminal proceedings against Hovsepyan until his departure, after which the process began. It is worth noting that Tigran Avinyan was criticized in 2019 for being present alongside Aghvan Hovsepyan at events dedicated to the independence of the first republic in Aparan, but everything ended there.
According to another version, the current chair of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Jhangiryan, has been working against Aghvan Hovsepyan, because in 2008, it was Hovsepyan who was the one to practically isolate him, and Jhangiryan and Hovsepyan have been long-time bitter enemies. When asked why he seeks revenge, the newspaper "Zhoghovurd" approached Gagik Jhangiryan, who responded: "Just as you have learned about this incident from the press, so have I. I have no information." For more details, see today’s issue of the newspaper.
