Government to Face Another Test Over Artsakh Issue: 'Hraparak'

'Hraparak' newspaper writes: 'The government will face another test over the issue of Artsakh. On August 27, at the sitting of the National Assembly’s Legal and Judicial Committee, President Vladimir Vardanyan requested to postpone the project proposed by 'Armenia' Alliance MP Agvani Vardanyan regarding Artsakh. MP Vardanyan proposed to rename the Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations to the 'Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations and Artsakh Issues.'

On Friday, the opposition will again bring this proposal to the agenda of the extraordinary session of the committee, which, by the way, according to the conclusion of the National Assembly’s Expert and Analytical Department, does not contain provisions that contradict the Constitution. The parliamentary majority cannot argue that the draft has issues with the Constitution or legislation, and must decide whether to accept or reject the opposition's proposal. However, it is highly likely that they will reject it, justifying that the formation of a committee on the Artsakh issue will worsen relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and that the representatives of the committee will not be able to travel abroad and be hosted in various parliaments.

The official Azerbaijan has declared on various occasions that it prohibits the Armenian authorities from traveling to Artsakh and from bringing the issue of Artsakh into the agenda of Armenia in general. It also sends protest notes to other states for any visits or steps aimed at recognizing Artsakh, compiling blacklists.'
