Armenian Authorities Determined to Open Communications Amid Azerbaijan's Expectations
During today’s cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the government’s five-year plan, emphasizing that deepening or regulating relations with neighboring countries will be a significant direction in the government’s foreign policy.
He informed that after his reappointment, he has already visited Iran and is traveling to Georgia today. “Establishing railway connections with Russia and Iran is extremely important for us. To resolve this issue, we are discussing the reopening of communications in a trilateral format with Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan. We are determined to make efforts to achieve concrete results, knowing that Azerbaijan also expects to receive communication between its western regions and Nakhchivan,” he stated.
Pashinyan underscored that Armenia is committed to restoring the peace process with Azerbaijan within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship. He highlighted the importance of delimitation and demarcation of borders with Azerbaijan, noting that they continue to create the necessary conditions for this. He also emphasized the return of prisoners.
“The President of Turkey has publicly addressed the issue of relations with Armenia. In these statements, we see the possibility of regulating Armenian-Turkish relations, restarting the Armenian-Turkish railway and roads, and we are ready for such a conversation, which can gain a broader context against the described backdrop. Essentially, the discussion is about making our region a crossroads connecting the East to the West and the North to the South,” he said.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that Russia has openly shown willingness to actively support this process, whereas France, the USA, and the EU are also interested in it. “Dear colleagues, I would like to reiterate that peace and stability in the region is our long-term strategy, and we consider ourselves responsible for solving that issue,” he added.
