Switchman Leaves Scene After Hitting 43-Year-Old Woman with Train, She Dies on Site

Today, on September 7, a tragic incident occurred in Yerevan. Around 8:30 PM, the Shengavit police department received a report that the body of a woman was found near the train tracks in Noragavit. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan at the scene, an operational group from the Shengavit police department, led by department head Karen Buniatyan, promptly arrived. A team from the Investigative Committee of Armenia’s Yerevan office’s Shengavit investigative division, headed by department chief Ruben Vardanyan and a senior investigator specializing in particularly significant cases, also arrived at the scene.

The commander of the patrol service's Yerevan battalion, Khachik Samvelyan, and his deputy, Andranik Isakhanyan, also arrived on site. The area was cordoned off and reinforced services were carried out by senior patrol officers Narek Sukiasyan and Suren Pashayan of the 2nd platoon of the 3rd battalion of the same battalion.

Police and investigators discovered the body of 43-year-old Gohar K., a resident of Yerevan, at the indicated location. According to preliminary information, she had been struck by a train hours earlier, driven by the switchman who left the scene after hitting her, despite having the opportunity to apply the brakes and notify the police.

Broken parts of the deceased's phone, her shoe, and other personal items were found on various sections of the train tracks. Materials are being prepared in the Shengavit investigative division regarding the case. The police and the investigative division are working to determine the identity of the switchman.
