Discovery of Large-scale Drug Smuggling and Trafficking Case
As a result of operational intelligence activities conducted by the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, it has been established that a citizen of the French Republic illegally acquired approximately 221.08 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in Armenia. The individual transported the drug covertly on the flight from Nice to Paris to Yerevan on September 3, 2021.
During customs control at the "Zvartnots" International Airport, the aforementioned illegal substance was discovered and seized from the individual who was intending to distribute it.
Following an investigation initiated by the Investigative Department of the National Security Service of Armenia, the suspect was arrested based on direct suspicion of committing the crime. Subsequently, preventive detention measures were applied against them.
Necessary procedural actions are being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the case and to reveal the full scope of individuals involved in the illegal importation of narcotic substances into Armenia through smuggling routes.
