Young Man Extorts Money Threatening to Publish Damaging Information About a Fellow Villager

The Artashat police department received information that a 27-year-old man from Artashat had extorted money from another young man living in one of the villages of the Ararat region by threatening to publish damaging information about him and to use violence that could jeopardize his health. The police reported this.

According to preliminary data, the resident of Artashat regularly demanded and received more than 500,000 drams from the other individual. Reportedly, he demanded an additional 400,000 drams on August 30.

The investigation into the crime involves personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department, as well as officers from the Ararat regional and forensic divisions. After receiving the demanded money on Marx Street in Artashat, the 27-year-old young man was apprehended. During the examination of the crime scene, 20 bills of 20,000 drams were discovered, labeled as “extortion.”

The investigation has established that from August 17 to 30, the detained individual extorted a total of 970,000 drams from the victim. He has been arrested. Within the framework of the criminal case, a 33-year-old man living in one of the villages of the Ararat region was also arrested, whom the Artashat police found on the evening of September 3 and presented to the Ararat regional investigative department.

The circumstances of the case are under investigation.
