M6-Sanahin Monastery Complex Road to Be Renovated

The M6 road leading to the Sanahin Monastery complex will undergo renovation. This was announced by Aren Mkrtchyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly from the "Civil Contract" faction, on his Facebook page.

“We discussed with Deputy Prime Minister Suren Papikyan the renovation of the M6 road (in front of the Alaverdi court) leading to the Sanahin Monastery complex. The Deputy Prime Minister informed that the project for the renovation of this 8.6 km long road section will be included in the government’s 2022 program.

This will further increase the flow of tourists to this cultural monument, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The resolution of this issue is of crucial importance for the Alaverdi community, particularly for the residents of the Sanahin-Sarahart neighborhood, as around 40-45 percent of the community's population lives in this area.

Additionally, the road is the only link connecting the lower part of the Alaverdi community to Sarahart, as the cable car has not been operational for several years,” he wrote.
