Applications for Commercial Fishing of Sig Are Being Accepted
The acceptance of applications for conducting commercial fishing during the extended period of the second phase in Lake Sevan has begun. The Ministry of Environment informed NEWS.am about this.
On September 2, 2021, the government adopted a decision to amend the decisions N1667-N from November 21, 2019, and N1603 from September 29, 2020. With this decision, the quota for commercial fishing of the sig fish was increased by an additional 50 tons for the year 2021, and the deadline for conducting the fishing was extended until October 15 of this year, providing lawful fishermen the opportunity to carry out commercial fishing for sig fish in accordance with established regulations.
According to the rules for "Experimental Commercial Fishing of Sig in Lake Sevan":
- The weight of the fish must be at least 400 grams,
- Fishing must be conducted using nets with a mesh size of 40 mm or more,
- At least 500 meters away from the shore to exclude the capture of small fish. Fishing will be conducted until October 15,
- In December and January, a strict monitoring regime will be established to ensure the spawning process of the fish,
- Fishing vessels will enter and exit the lake from designated areas specifically allocated for them,
- Fishing will be organized according to a schedule approved by the authorized body,
- The inspector conducting monitoring at the entrance and exit points will record the details of the fishing vessel and fisherman that entered the lake that day, the access and exit times, will inspect the fishing tools, and after the fishing is completed, will register the quantity of captured fish.
Those wishing to conduct commercial fishing of sig fish in Lake Sevan can submit applications for contract signing to the “Sevan” National Park SNCO and its branches until September 15 of this year inclusive.
