US to Pay Afghan Refugees $2,275 Each: Bloomberg
The Biden administration in the United States, along with more than 200 private agencies, is rushing to establish a resettlement system for several tens of thousands of Afghans. According to Bloomberg, the State Department plans to spend $2,275 for each evacuee as the process of settling refugees will begin across the country in the coming months.
The funds are intended for housing, food, other necessary needs, and enrolling children in schools. About 50,000 evacuees will arrive under a so-called humanitarian program, which allows them one year to apply for permanent visas. Other Afghans, including those who worked directly for the U.S. government, will fall under different immigration categories.
It is worth recalling that following the Taliban's takeover of power in Afghanistan, tens of thousands of Afghans have fled the country.
