Hakob Karapetyan on the Organization of Educational Processes in Schools
On September 1, ArmDaily.am published an article titled "Close the school, tell parents to teach, we will provide the books: when children attend classes 2-3 days a week under daily regime," addressing numerous reports that, despite the statement by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan that all schools should switch to a daily teaching regime, there are schools in the capital that started the academic year with split classes.
At the same time, there are schools that, despite the announcement being made just 2 days before the start of the academic year, managed to organize and switch to a daily regime. Since schools are also under community jurisdiction, the media outlet asked Hakob Karapetyan, the press secretary of the Yerevan Municipality, to comment on the reasons for such a discriminatory approach, where some schools switch to a daily regime regardless of the number of students in classes, while others still continue teaching with split classes.
Karapetyan stated that according to the order number 24 of the Minister of Health, the procedure is that schools must submit a written request to the municipality's Department of General Education to obtain permission to organize 5-day education fully with classrooms, not groups. The municipality's department must then apply to the authorized body, namely the Ministry of Education, Science, Sport, and Culture, which must grant that permission.
“This is essentially a technical process that will take a few days, and in a few days, education will be organized according to the order presented by Deputy Minister Andreasyan,” he said.
When asked about how many schools have applied for this process, he emphasized that all schools must apply. “All schools that can organize anti-epidemic measures are applying and receiving that permission,” he added.
