U.S. Ambassador: 'Georgia's Announcement Was Unexpected for Us'
The government of Georgia has renounced the second tranche of EU financial aid, amounting to 75 million euros. The announcement by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to decline EU macroeconomic assistance was unexpected for Congress. This was stated by the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, as reported by Sputnik Georgia.
“It was unexpected for us, especially against the backdrop of high unemployment rates, the severe consequences of the coronavirus, and the high levels of poverty in the country,” the diplomat noted.
