Vandalism at Yereablur: Soldier's Grave Desecrated
On the afternoon of August 30, an outrageous and inhumane incident occurred at Yereablur. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the grave marker of Narek Gevorgyan, a hero awarded the 1st Degree Combat Cross, was demolished and stolen along with its columns and benches at the military pantheon.
In an interview with SHAMSHYAN.com, Narek's father, Roman Gevorgyan, stated that they had been at Yereablur the night before, and the gravestone was still in place. However, during the day, it was barbarically destroyed and taken away. He noted that he had received special permission from the former and current Ministers of Defense, as well as other responsible bodies, to establish the grave, but upon returning, they found not only the gravestone missing but also the columns and benches.
According to the hero's father, those who committed this act are worse than Turks, for they were able to destroy the grave of a hero who devoted his life to this country.
The father promised that in the morning, they would gather in front of the government building to raise their voices in protest and ensure that the perpetrators of this vandalism are held accountable. It appears that R. Gevorgyan was initially allowed to construct his heroic son's grave, only to have it destroyed later without any conscience.
We await a response from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.
