Sukiasyan Has No Moral Right to Criticize Vazgen Sargsyan, Says Sasun Mikayelyan
Khachatur Sukiasyan has no moral right to criticize Vazgen Sargsyan. This was stated by the president of the Youth Commission of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, former MP Sasun Mikayelyan, in an interview with 168.am, in response to the recent comments made by Khachatur Sukiasyan, an MP from the Civil Contract faction.
“Let no one place themselves on a pedestal and criticize Vazgen. First, one does not speak ill of the deceased, and second, Mr. Sukiasyan should step back a bit. Those who brought Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan into power—let him start from there, to understand what the consequences were for our country, and how everything was interpreted correctly...
He should not put himself in the position of a saint and talk about other matters; he has no moral right to criticize Vazgen, the victorious commander and marshal.”
“In the end, we must have a history to pass on to our generations... Vazgen Sargsyan did not make mistakes; it was the individuals who brought Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan who erred. Many people do not know who brought them to power, and I have always stated that it was Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Vazgen Sargsyan, as a patriotic man, raised the issue of Karabakh, and that is why he is significant... I do not want to delve deeper into this; I ask that words be taken in their literal sense... I would advise him to refrain from speaking about Vazgen altogether,” said Sasun Mikayelyan.
Previously, in the National Assembly, Sukiasyan had stated, “Vazgen Sargsyan staged a coup. I must differentiate. Vazgen Sargsyan, may his soul be bright, but he did a lot of harm to Armenia. What business does the power structure have to tell the political leadership that they are wrong? Who is he...?”
