Russia Evacuates Citizens from Afghanistan

Under the directive of President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Ministry of Defense is evacuating over 500 citizens from Russia, CSTO countries, and Ukraine from Afghanistan. According to TASS, the evacuation is being conducted using military transport aircraft.

On August 25, the Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu organized the evacuation of more than 500 citizens from Russia, CSTO countries (Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), and Ukraine from Afghanistan, as stated in a ministry announcement.

It is noted that medical specialists will be present on each aircraft to provide assistance to citizens from different countries.

It is recalled that the Taliban had commenced active operations coinciding with the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, capturing new cities daily, and entered Kabul on August 15. Hours later, President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled the country. The acting Vice President Amrullah Saleh announced that according to the constitution, in the absence of the president, he would assume the duties of the leader. He has called for armed resistance against the Taliban.
