Putin and Biden Discussed U.S. Troop Withdrawal from Afghanistan, Peskov Says

Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden discussed the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan ahead of the collapse in the country, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for the Russian president. He emphasized that broadcasting the nuances publicly is unacceptable, as reported by Armenpress.

Peskov was asked to comment on reports from certain media outlets claiming that Putin had expressed opposition to U.S. presence in Central Asia and Afghanistan during their meeting in Geneva. He noted that it is not essential for every piece of information, whether true or considered "fake news", to be commented on by the Kremlin or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially when it pertains to the content of negotiations between the leaders of two states, Russia and the U.S.

"It can be said for sure that even back when the Afghan collapse had not yet occurred, the topic of Afghanistan and the impending withdrawal of Americans from there was indeed discussed in the negotiations. However, we generally do not broadcast the nuances at a public level, as this is not customary," Peskov clarified, as reported by RIA Novosti.
