Putin: We Must Stop the Irresponsible Policy of Imposing Values from Abroad
On August 20, following a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Taliban movement (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia) controls almost the entire territory of Afghanistan and that one must proceed from this reality.
"The Taliban movement today controls almost the entire territory of the country, including the capital. These are facts, and it is from these facts that one must proceed to prevent the collapse of the Afghan state," he said, as reported by Izvestia.
At the same time, Putin emphasized the need to "stop the irresponsible policy of imposing values from abroad," including attempts to build democracy in other countries "in the guise of others."
"Such socio-political experiments have never been successful and have only led to the destruction of states and the degradation of their political and social systems," the Russian president summarized.
Furthermore, the Russian leader noted that it is important to prevent the entry of terrorists into Afghanistan's neighboring countries, including under the pretext of refugees.
