A particularly brutal murder took place in Yerevan today, August 11. At around 09:20 AM, a call was received by the Shengavit police department reporting a woman's body found at the entrance of building number 54 on Artashisyan Street.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan from the scene, an operational group headed by Police Chief Karen Buniatyan swiftly arrived at the location. The police and investigators discovered the body of 34-year-old Mari M., a resident of one of the apartments in that building, at the first entrance.
According to the preliminary conclusion of the forensic expert, the body shows signs of over 10 stab wounds. The police and investigators traced that the murder was committed by a 33-year-old resident of Yerevan, Mher Z.
Before the police and investigative team could reach Mher Z.'s apartment in the Erebuni administrative district, he voluntarily appeared at the Shengavit police department, confessing to the murder and presenting the murder weapon—a knife.
Following the investigator's decision, a number of examinations were ordered, including a forensic medical examination of the body. The patrol officers of the Yerevan patrol service of the Armenian police are currently performing heightened services at the scene, securing the area.
