Sam's Call: 'Mom, don't cry, you have a heroic son who brought a tank from the Turk,' recounts the hero's mother
Sam could have served elsewhere, but he decided to come and serve for his homeland, opposing us. He had only two months and twenty days left until the end of his service. He was very satisfied with his service, having received certificates, a letter of thanks, and a medal for bravery.
The life of 21-year-old Samvel Gevorgyan, who was killed during the 44-day Artsakh war in battles against the enemy, was interrupted at a time when I needed him most, recounted the hero's mother, Hasmik Gevorgyan, to Tert.am. Samvel was from the village of Ginevet in the Ararat region. Leaving his studies unfinished, he moved to Russia with his family from the fifth grade, and he excelled in school. His mother shared that her son was an excellent chess player and had received numerous certificates and medals, earning the title of "Master of Sports."
The hardworking boy loved nothing more than to see his mother happy and did everything he could to bring a smile to her face. “Sam knew that I raised them through very hard and difficult days and always said, 'Mom, now it's my turn, I will take care of you like a flower.' It was very difficult to raise a boy in a foreign land; I was always anxious, but my son would say, 'Mom, I won’t do anything to make you hang your head in shame.'”
His mother remembers that she learned from social media on September 27 that the war had begun. “I was anxious; Sam was not answering my calls. Around noon, I received a call from an unknown number, and when I picked up, it was Sam. I couldn’t speak; I was crying, but he tried to calm me down, I don’t know if he was emotional or what, but with a trembling voice, he shouted, ‘Mom, don’t cry, you have a heroic son who brought a tank from the Turk, don’t cry, your son is a hero.’”
Samvel called his mom every day so that she wouldn’t worry too much and would be assured he was doing well. “The last call was on October 6, and I heard these words from my son: 'Dear mom, stay cute, I love you very much.' Sam was trapped, participated in intense battles, destroyed a drone, but he maintained his composure as if he wasn’t in a battlefield.”
Sam had decided that he would come and study at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and later go to Moscow to start a business. Unfortunately, my son’s dreams and goals remain unfulfilled.”
Samvel fell on October 7 from a drone strike in Mataghis, and the hero's sister has named her newborn baby after her brother; little Samvel will be told many stories about his uncle.
