Kocharian Comments on Defense Ministry's Announcement Regarding Moscow Talks

In Moscow, the defense ministries of Armenia and Russia have discussed preventing potential developments along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. According to Armenpress, this was stated by Andranik Kocharian, a member of the 'Civil Contract' faction and a candidate for the head of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security.

Kocharian responded to a question from Anna Grigoryan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction, who referred to the Armenian Defense Ministry's statement on July 28 regarding the upcoming negotiations in Moscow and inquired about the levels at which meetings were planned and what issues were on the negotiation table that the Ministry had announced.

“At this moment, I would find it difficult to say where things have reached and what agreements have been established between our and the Russian armed forces,” Kocharian said. “However, this can never be against the interests of the Republic of Armenia. It all depends on how quickly we can restore our lost opportunities in the military aspect,” he added.

The MP further noted that issues related to Armenia's borders are being discussed in Russia, and it is evident that a military official from the opposing side is also participating in these discussions.

“No one can carry out any negotiation process behind the National Assembly's back. Ultimately, all of this will also be discussed in the National Assembly if necessary,” he emphasized.

On July 28, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia issued a statement indicating that Azerbaijan had launched offensive military operations against Armenia’s borders, from Sotk to the Verin Shorja area, ahead of the planned negotiations in Moscow.
