Russian Political Scientist Distorts the Logic of Negotiations on Artsakh from 2008 to 2018: Abrahamyan
Member of the ‘Honorary’ parliamentary faction Tigran Abrahamyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“Russian political scientist Alexander Dugin stated in an interview with a media outlet that Russian President Putin had agreed with former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to hand over five regions to Azerbaijan, resolving the Artsakh issue and paving the way for Azerbaijan's membership in the CSTO and EEU.
While Dugin presents this as the best solution, referring to the disgraceful policy led by Pashinyan, which resulted in Armenia suffering significantly more territorial losses than what had been stipulated in previously existing documents, his statements distort the entire logic of negotiations regarding the Artsakh issue from 2008 to 2018.
Let me clarify that during those years, there were no other agreements outside of the published documents concerning negotiations, where the issue of Artsakh’s status was a priority, and the exercise of the right to self-determination and international recognition was a documented fact.
Incidentally, this was also discussed by Igor Popov, the former Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, who stated that Moscow has never proposed the return of territories while disregarding the status.
The claims that Armenia was coerced into territorial concessions in exchange for nothing are clear in terms of their intent and purpose; however, the reality is that there were no secret agreements between the President of Russia or any other country’s leader.”
