Arizona Senator Arrested for Child Abuse
Arizona Senator Tony Navarrete has been arrested on multiple charges, including child abuse. This was reported by Newsweek, citing the Phoenix police department. The Democrat's arrest has also been confirmed by ABC journalist Nicole Valdes on Twitter.
The 35-year-old Navarrete is accused of conducting sexual acts with a minor in 2019. The police have stated that they interviewed the victim and witnesses, which provided sufficient grounds for the politician's arrest. Further details of the case have not been disclosed.
According to Lenta, the Democrat was taken into custody a few days after testing positive for coronavirus, despite being fully vaccinated.
Arizona senators released a statement following Navarrete's arrest but remained silent on the specifics related to the allegations of violence against a child. “We are aware that one of our colleagues has been arrested and we await further details and the execution of their duties by law enforcement,” they noted.
