The U.S. Will Support the Parties in Negotiating a Peaceful Settlement Under the Auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, Biden Congratulates Pashinyan
U.S. President Joe Biden has congratulated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of the Republic of Armenia on his victory in the parliamentary elections and the formation of a new government.
In his congratulatory message to Pashinyan, Biden emphasized that conducting fair and transparent elections highlights the desire of the Armenian people to have a more democratic, just, and prosperous society free from corruption. “Over the past three years, Armenia has made progress in these areas. The United States is pleased to assist in these efforts, including support for the launch of the new patrol police and the establishment of independent institutions to combat corruption. We will continue to be a reliable partner in your work to achieve these goals,” said Biden.
He stated that he understands the difficult security challenges that emerged due to the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “The United States is committed to supporting the parties in negotiating a comprehensive, peaceful settlement under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group. We urge Armenia and Azerbaijan to engage in substantive negotiations as soon as possible. The U.S. was pleased to support efforts to release Armenian prisoners of war from Azerbaijan, and we will continue to call for the safe return of all detainees. We hope that the progress we have made on this issue with the support of Georgia will serve as an important basis for further regional cooperation, in addition to discussions initiated by the co-chairs of the Minsk Group,” stated Biden in his message to Pashinyan.
He added that the U.S. is ready to deepen cooperation with Armenia based on shared democratic values and institutions. “I look forward to working with you and your new government to deepen and expand our bilateral relations,” concluded the head of the White House.
