Biography of Newly Appointed Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahe Khachatryan
President Armen Sarkissian has signed a decree appointing Vahe Khachatryan (Khachatouryan) as the Minister of High-Tech Industry.
Biography
Born in 1959 in the city of Sisian. He graduated with honors from Yerevan School No. 118 in 1976. From 1976 to 1980, he studied at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy, earning a degree in economics. He served in the Soviet Army from 1980 to 1982.
Professional Activity
From 1982 to 1992, he engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy. Between 1982 and 1990, he worked at the 'Hrazdan Machine' production association as an economist and head of the economic research laboratory. From 1990 to 1992, he served as the head of a department and deputy general director of the 'Mars' production association.
From 1990 to 1995, he was a member of the Yerevan City Council. From December 22, 1992, to February 22, 1996, he served as the chairman of the executive committee of the Yerevan City Council, acting as the mayor of Yerevan. He was a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from 1995 to 1999 and served as an advisor to the President of Armenia from 1996 to 1998.
In 2000, he became a founding member of the 'Armat' center for the development of democracy and civil society. In 2006, he was a founding member of the 'Alternative' civic-political initiative. From 2008 to 2013, he headed the territorial organization of the Armenian National Congress in Malatia and was a member of the Congress's economic committee.
He is the author of scientific and professional articles, translations, and publications in liberal economic and political literature.
He is married and has two children.
