Soldier Dies Following Explosion of Illegally Held Grenade

On July 31, 2021, around 11:30 AM, a mandatory conscript soldier, Private Parghev Nveri Margaryan, was found in the woods about 1.5 kilometers from the permanent stationed location of Army Unit N, having deserted the unit on July 29. He suffered from an amputation of the right hand and fatal injuries to the chest and abdominal areas. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

According to preliminary data, P. Margaryan sustained his injuries as a result of an explosion from a grenade he was illegally holding. In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated at the military investigative department of the main investigation directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia under Part 1 of Article 360.1 of the RA Criminal Code /causing a soldier to commit suicide through negligence/ and Part 1 of Article 235 /illegally obtaining, selling, storing, transporting, or carrying weapons, military ammunition, explosives, or explosive devices/. The investigation is underway.
