I Am Resigning from the Position of Vice Prime Minister: Avinyan Issues Statement
Tigran Avinyan has issued a statement on his Facebook page announcing his resignation from the position of Vice Prime Minister:
“Dear compatriots, at the onset of the electoral process, I decided to focus on fulfilling official duties and refrain from participating in the pre-election campaign. This decision was influenced by some disagreements regarding the electoral list. Our struggle is based on the principles of democracy, freedom, and the exclusion of corruption. In this context, we prioritize the establishment and consolidation of democracy (free, fair, and transparent elections) and the elimination of corruption (an unwavering fight against corruption) at this stage of our country’s development. A fundamental principle in this regard is also the separation of business and politics, regardless of individuals involved. However, when it came to the electoral list, I was not confident that this principle was being upheld and that we were not deviating from it in any way.
Nevertheless, I am convinced that the separation of business and politics will remain an inviolable principle for our team, and potential risks will be managed. I will continue to be a member of the board of the 'Civil Contract' party and will support in every possible way the continuation of all our reforms that began in 2018.
In leaving the post of Vice Prime Minister, I assess our three years of work as effective, and I can confidently speak of progress in the areas I coordinated. First, during the pandemic and the war, we managed to prevent a potential collapse of the economy. Moreover, through anti-crisis and development programs, we did not allow the situation to deteriorate in sectors such as social security, agriculture, energy, urban development, and others, while simultaneously ensuring real prerequisites for development.
I also emphasize the development of the strategy for reforming the public administration system and the achievements in the field of digitalization. All of this creates an excellent foundation for building the state we dream of.
I am grateful to the people for their support to our team and to the Prime Minister and our political team for entrusting me with such a responsible role, as well as to the legislature, executive, and international partners for effective collaboration. I am confident that the work done over the past three years will have a tangible impact on making Armenia a prosperous, competitive, and institutional state.
I wish success to the newly elected National Assembly and the newly formed government for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia and its people.”
