In Bulgaria, 10,000 People Died Due to Poor Vaccine Organization, Says Kazarov

In Bulgaria, massive casualties have been reported due to errors in the vaccination process. This was stated by Stoycho Kazarov, head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Health, as cited by RIA Novosti, referring to the Sofia Globe newspaper.

Kazarov noted that the previous government made a number of mistakes in organizing vaccinations. He pointed out that priority was not given to the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. As a result, 80 percent of those who died from the coronavirus were in the older age group. According to the minister, 10,000 lives could have been saved.

The second mistake was the wrong choice of vaccine, with a decision to prioritize AstraZeneca at the expense of Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen. Kazarov also drew attention to poor logistics; due to delivery delays, only 200,000 people had been vaccinated by the beginning of March.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Health reports that over 424,000 cases of the infection have been identified in the country, and more than 18,000 people have died from the coronavirus.
