The United States on Events at the Armenia-Azerbaijan Border

The United States is urging Armenia and Azerbaijan to take immediate steps toward de-escalating the situation at their border. This statement was issued by Ned Price, the spokesperson for the State Department.

“The U.S. condemns the recent escalation of violence along the international border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We call on both countries to adhere to their ceasefire obligations and to take immediate measures aimed at de-escalating the situation. The ongoing tensions at the border indicate that only a comprehensive solution, which addresses key issues, can normalize relations between the two countries and allow the residents of the region to live together in peace,” the U.S. administration representative's statement said.

Additionally, Price urged Yerevan and Baku to return as soon as possible to negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group (Russia, the U.S., and France).

“The U.S. calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to return to substantive negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group as soon as possible to achieve a long-term political settlement of the conflict,” the message noted.
