Sotk Mine Resumes Operations in Normal Mode from Morning

Despite claims from the governor of Gegharkunik Province that the Sotk mine is currently not operational, a representative from GeoProMining Gold reported otherwise. “From this morning, the mine has resumed operations in normal mode,” the company representative informed Fastinfo.

The previous night, gunfire occurred at the mine, as the Armenia-Azerbaijan border now runs through the mine area since November 9. “We immediately decided to evacuate all personnel who were on night duty, and even pulled back some of the equipment. The mine's operations were halted all day yesterday. After lunch, the situation calmed a bit, and last night was quite peaceful, so the mine resumed its operations in the morning,” the representative added.

It is worth mentioning that Gegharkunik Province Governor Gnel Sanosyan addressed the situation in the Sotk and Kut communities after the government session. According to him, access to the Kut village area has been closed to journalists for security reasons. For the same security considerations, some mine workers and equipment have been withdrawn. Sanosyan informed reporters that the mine is currently not operational. “Once there are no security issues, the mine will begin operations in coordination with the command staff,” he stated.
