Senior Lieutenant Injured by Enemy Fire; Investigation Underway

On July 29, 2021, between 03:30 and 03:45, a group of military personnel from the armed forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan opened fire in the border area of the Verin Shorja settlement, located within the administrative territory of the Vardenis community in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia. The gunfire was reportedly motivated by national, racial, or religious hatred or fanaticism, with the intent to unlawfully take the lives of two or more persons. As a result, Senior Lieutenant H.S. of the Armenian Armed Forces sustained gunshot wounds while stationed at the combat position of military unit N.

This information has been reported by the Investigative Committee. In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated under clauses 1, 7, and 13 of Part 2 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code at the military prosecutor's office of the Sevan garrison, and an investigation is underway by the fifth investigative division of the Military Investigative Main Department of the Investigative Committee.
