21 Billion AMD in Apparent Misappropriations During the Operations of Yerevan Thermal Power Plant; Criminal Case Initiated

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia has received and examined documents related to an inquiry conducted by the State Revenue Committee into the activities of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, which revealed numerous apparent criminal misappropriations.

This information was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office. Specifically, it was found that as a result of poorly executed construction works, payments for construction works that were not actually completed being made through performance acts, abuses in procurement procedures, and the signing of contracts under obviously unfavorable terms for the company, a total of 21,010,739,100 AMD in damages was inflicted on both the company and the state.

Considering that sufficient data was obtained during the examination of the materials provided by the State Revenue Committee regarding the falsification of documents, significant harm caused to the rights and legal interests of the state and the company due to officials' inappropriate use of their authority, as well as the misappropriation of entrusted financial resources, a criminal case has been initiated under articles 179 (parts 1, 2, and 3), 179 (part 3, point 1), 308 (parts 1 and 2), and 325 (part 2) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The criminal case has been forwarded to the Investigative Committee of Armenia for further investigation.
