I am categorically against any increase in my salary: Hayk Marutyan

A group of members of the Yerevan City Council has initiated an extraordinary session this week to discuss the issue of salary increases for around 2,000 employees of the city hall, as reported by Aysor.am, citing Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan.

"Systemically, this will provide an opportunity to attract qualified personnel to serve the city and its residents. However, the law requires that if the salaries of other employees are increased, the mayor's salary must also be raised," he noted.

The mayor emphasized that he has had the opportunity to express his position on this matter, stating that a person appointed to a public position as a result of a revolution should not seek to increase their own salary.

"Therefore, I am categorically against any increase in my salary, and as such, I will not participate in the voting. If the council votes in favor of the decision, I will refuse the increase and will continue to receive the same salary I have earned over these past 2.5 years, which is 415,000 drams. The increased amount will be directed towards charity," Marutyan declared.
