Georgia to Hold Individuals Accountable for Defiling EU and NATO Flags
In Georgia, administrative responsibility will be imposed on individuals who desecrate the flags of the European Union, NATO, and other international organizations to which Georgia is a member. Those who tarnish the flags of countries with which Tbilisi has diplomatic relations, near or within state institutions, will also be held accountable. This information was reported by the Georgia Online portal.
On July 26, the draft law was discussed in a parliamentary bureau meeting. It is planned to introduce a special article in the Code of Administrative Offenses, according to which the aforementioned actions will carry a fine of 1,000 lari (slightly over $300). Repeated flag desecration will lead to a financial penalty of 2,000 lari (about $650) or up to 15 days of administrative detention.
The draft law has been authored by lawmakers from both the ruling party and the opposition.
