Tokyo 2020: Ferdinand Karapetyan Loses in Judo Event

Member of the Armenian judo team, Ferdinand Karapetyan, faced defeat in the opening of the Olympic Games.

According to Arminfo, in the 73 kg weight category of the judo competition at the 32nd Summer Olympic Games taking place in Tokyo, Karapetyan competed against Kazakhstan's representative, Zhansai Smagulov, and, after losing in the qualifying round, was eliminated from further contention.

On July 26, Armenia's boxing team member, 52 kg Koryun Sogomonyan, will attempt to compete for medals. The boxing matches will start at 06:00 Yerevan time, and Sogomonyan will begin his bout at 12:15 Yerevan time.

On July 27, weightlifter Izabella Yalyan will compete in the women’s 59 kg B group. Also on the same day, swimmer Arthur Barseghyan will start his event in the men's 100 meters freestyle, which will commence at 14:00.

July 28 marks the competition day for swimmer Varsenik Manucharyan, who will compete in the 50 meters freestyle with the event starting at 14:00.

On July 29, boxer Arman Darchinyan will attempt to advance to the next round in the 75 kg weight category.

July 30 will see a second start for swimmer Arthur Barseghyan (50 meters, freestyle) with the competition beginning at 14:00.

On July 31, boxer Hovhannes Bachkov will conduct his second bout, starting at 07:36 Yerevan time.

Wrestlers in Greco-Roman style will begin competing on August 1, with Armen Melikyan entering the fray in the 60 kg 1/8 finals. The bouts commence at 06:00.

On August 2, wrestlers Karapet Chalyan and Arthur Aleksanyan will begin their medal contention in the 1/8 finals starting at 06:30. If they advance to the finals, the matches will take place on August 3.

August 2 will also feature the final of the gymnastics vault, where Arthur Davtyan will compete.

On August 3, athlete Levon Aghasyan will begin his triple jump, and wrestler Karen Aslanyan will start his competition from the 1/8 finals in the 67 kg weight category. The same day, at 14:50 Yerevan time, Simon Martirosyan (109 kg) will contend for the title of Olympic champion.

On August 4, freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan will begin competing in the 1/8 finals for the 57 kg weight category, with matches starting at 11:30 Yerevan time. The finals will take place on August 5.

August 6 will see the last participation of the Armenian Olympic team, with Vazgen Tevanyan competing for medals starting from the 1/8 finals in the 65 kg weight category. The finals will be held on August 7.
