Robbery of a Pensioner: The Attacker Was a Woman Who Had Hidden in the Apartment

On July 24, 2021, at 16:20, a retired resident of Syunik Province, who is a former teacher, reported that on the same day, around 14:00, an unknown female individual, taking advantage of her living alone and the slightly open entrance door, entered her apartment, used violence to demand money, and after taking the cash, left.

The Investigative Committee states that an investigative-operational group immediately traveled to the scene. A criminal case has been initiated in the Sisian investigative department of the Syunik regional investigative administration under the 2nd part of Article 175 of the RA Criminal Code. The resident of Syunik Province has been recognized as a victim and has provided testimony regarding the circumstances of the incident.

As a result of urgent investigative and other procedural actions, along with joint measures carried out with the officials of the RA Police, several circumstances of the incident have been clarified, including the identities of two individuals suspected of committing the crime, who are not only residents of the same community but are also colleagues.

The investigation revealed that one of them, a 34-year-old resident of Syunik Province, requested her partner to visit the pensioner under the pretext of checking the water meter, to ascertain whether the elderly woman was at home. When the homeowner was in the bathroom with the man, the 34-year-old woman entered the apartment and hid in the bedroom. After the man left, she attacked the homeowner, using a glass container and her hands to strike various parts of the woman's body, spraying some liquid on her face and forcing it into her mouth, while dragging her from the living room into the hallway and using dangerous violence against her health.

The attacker stole a significant amount of money—840,000 AMD and 100 USD—and fled the scene. Hours later, the 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of robbery and questioned, providing a self-incriminating testimony and presenting part of the stolen goods—740,000 AMD, the liquids used during the crime, and the clothes she was wearing at the time of the incident.

On July 25, 2021, her colleague was also arrested. An examination of the crime scene was conducted, during which samples were collected, and a forensic medical examination was appointed. The preliminary investigation continues, and measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case and ensure an objective and comprehensive investigation.
