Aliyev is 'right' again when he says there is no territory called Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan - Beglaryan
The Minister of State of the Republic of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, stated on his Facebook page:
“Artsakh has been Armenian for millennia and will forever remain so thanks to our national will and effort. The Aliyevs have come and gone through the turmoil of centuries, but Armenian Artsakh has always stood firm.
It is clear that Ilham Aliyev, in his recent interview, aimed to once again mislead his society and the international audience while feeding them lies about Artsakh. In particular:
- Aliyev is 'right' again when he says that there is no territory called Nagorno-Karabakh within Azerbaijan. Yes, Nagorno-Karabakh is outside of Azerbaijan’s territory, has never been part of it, and will not be.
- His claims regarding the status of Artsakh are merely manifestations of self-deception and dishonesty, as the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) fully functions, just as it did in the pre-war period, regardless of existing losses and difficulties. We have established state institutions and attributes, and we have an unwavering will to develop and strengthen them. The people and authorities of Artsakh will never accept any de facto or de jure status within Azerbaijan, and we will strive for the international recognition of our independence through consistent struggle.
- Another example of his dishonesty was the assertion that there are currently 25,000 residents in Artsakh, while approximately 115,000-120,000 people actually live in Artsakh. Here, the interesting context of his claim reveals that he acknowledges and accepts that the fate and future of Artsakh depend on its population, while attempting to distort reality with a simplistic trick.
- He again distorts history by justifiably noting that the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) was an artificial creation, but presents it as a step against Azerbaijan, ignoring the fact that no one asked the Armenian people when Artsakh was forcibly annexed to Azerbaijan. The truth is that the conflict began during the pre-Soviet era, and unjust decisions were made in the early years of the Soviet Union, entirely against the will of the predominantly Armenian population of Artsakh. Therefore, it is inappropriate to view the conflict since 1988, and we must accept the legal and historical facts that Artsakh was not only annexed to Azerbaijan in 1921, but also during that time and until the collapse of the USSR, the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh were artificially and significantly reduced (including in 1928 when NKAO was cut off from the borders of the Armenian SSR), and the demographic picture was artificially altered, leading to a white genocide. In fact, referring to the formation of the NKAO, it turns out that Aliyev acknowledges the need to consider its foundations (including borders and demographic picture) in the settlement of the conflict.
- If Armenians are newcomers to Artsakh from the beginning of the 19th century, then with whom were the conquerors Panah and Ibrahim Khan at war in the mid-18th century? Who slaughtered the Ottoman forces in Artsakh in the early 18th century? In what language are the medieval inscriptions of Gandzasar and Dadivank written? Were ancient and medieval foreign historians bribed when writing about Armenian Artsakh, etc., etc.?
P.S. The photo is from a June 1 event featuring a group of children from villages near the frontline, witnessing the eternity of Artsakh.
