34-Year-Old Driver Crashes into High-Voltage Tower in Gegharkunik: 15-Year-Old Boy Dies

A tragic car accident occurred today, July 26, in the Gegharkunik region.

At around 12:30 AM, 34-year-old Vigen Rafaelyan, a resident of Tsovagyugh village, lost control of his VAZ 2107 vehicle while traveling on the Tsovagyugh-Shorja-Vardenis highway, 3.5 km stretch towards Sevan. The car veered off the road and crashed into the concrete support of a high-voltage power line tower.

According to Shamshyan.com, as a result of the accident, driver V. Rafaelyan and his 15-year-old passenger, Sergey Rafaelyan, were taken to the “Sevan” medical center with bodily injuries.

This morning, a report was received at the Sevan police department from the hospital indicating that 15-year-old S. Rafaelyan had died without regaining consciousness.

A criminal case has been initiated, and the investigation will be transferred to the Gegharkunik regional investigation department of the Armenian Investigative Committee.
