Arman Atasyan, Severely Wounded on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border in Gegharkunik, Is Out of Danger
On July 23, Arman Atasyan, who sustained serious injuries as a result of an incident along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Gegharkunik, has regained consciousness and is no longer in danger of death, said his father, Gurgen Atasyan, in an interview with NEWS.am.
“Thank God, he has regained consciousness and is speaking. According to the doctors, his life is not in danger,” he noted, adding that Arman underwent surgery and had one kidney removed.
When asked about the circumstances surrounding his son's injury, Gurgen Atasyan mentioned that he is not fully aware of the specifics, but he knows that a clash occurred between Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers during which three of their soldiers were injured.
Gurgen Atasyan stated that his son had been a conscript for one year and one day when he was injured. “He was transferred from the training unit in Armavir; he was studying BMP (armored vehicle unit), and was sent to a post where my child was supposed to operate the BMP, meaning that tankers are also sent to guard the trench.”
Gurgen Atasyan believes that the safety of their soldiers in those positions is not ensured, as there should be at least a 30-40 meter gap in the inter-position area.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia reported that on July 23, 2021, at around 5:00 PM, during duty at a combat post under the jurisdiction of the Armenian Ministry of Defense's military unit located in the administrative territory of the Kutch community in Gegharkunik province, Armenian military personnel sustained gunshot wounds due to exchanges of fire with the enemy, including conscript Arman Gurgen Atasyan and contract servicemen Lerni Nahapet Naoyan and Yurik Ashot Ohanian.
