Azerbaijani Authorities Must Compensate All Farmers for Damages: Tatoyan
The Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has issued a statement, which particularly states: “One of these documents is a calculation of damages for the destroyed garden of a resident of David Bek village in Kapan, while the other is a lease agreement for agricultural land of a resident of Vardenis, from which he is now deprived of the opportunity to utilize.
These documents serve as examples proving that the property, social security, and other legal rights of these residents of Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces have been violated due to the illegal presence of Azerbaijani armed forces.
Azerbaijani authorities must be held accountable and compensate all farmers for the damages incurred. They must compensate for the fact that, in addition to the serious security risks, they have disrupted the normal and peaceful lives of individuals and deprived them of the opportunity to earn income for their families.
These facts once again prove that border issues cannot be viewed separately from the rights of border residents. Regardless of whatever political mechanisms may be in place, success cannot be achieved if human rights are not taken into account.
We must utilize all available means and, without hesitation, consistently work towards restoring the violated rights. Impunity creates a real risk of repetition of more serious violations.”
