Vaccination Needed Before New Wave of Pandemic Intensifies as Coronavirus Numbers Rise

The number of coronavirus infection cases in Armenia continues to rise, having surpassed the threshold of 200 cases per day. This was announced today by Lena Nanushyan, Deputy Minister of Health, at a government meeting.

“While last week we recorded a maximum of up to 200 cases, this week we have already exceeded 200, with 220 cases announced yesterday and 225 cases registered today,” she said, adding that according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Health, this upward trend is expected to continue in the coming days.

The deputy minister also noted that the epidemiological situation regarding the coronavirus is tense throughout the region and in Europe as well. However, in countries where the vaccination rate is high, hospitalizations and death cases are mainly recorded among those who are unvaccinated.

Nanushyan urged citizens of Armenia to get vaccinated before the new wave of the coronavirus pandemic intensifies.

According to official statistics in Armenia, 606 citizens are currently receiving hospital treatment, of whom 282 are in serious condition and 48 are in extremely serious condition.

The Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of maintaining a vaccination rate among citizens at around 5,000 per day. He also instructed that henceforth the statistics on vaccinations for foreigners and Armenian citizens should be separated, as it is not clear from the total number what portion has been administered to Armenian citizens.

Pashinyan also instructed that the mask-wearing regime in closed spaces should be maintained, as statistics may compel the government to impose stricter measures.
