New Phase of Renovation at the Nuclear Power Plant: Until When Can We Operate It?
The Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia is entering a new phase of renovation, with the thermal treatment of the reactor's metal shell now underway. The plant reports that the annealing work is being carried out by top specialists in the nuclear sector from the Russian company Rosatom Service, which is part of the Rosatom State Corporation's nuclear energy division.
It is noted that the annealing will allow the operational characteristics of the reactor's metal to return to 80-85% of its original state. The implementation of this procedure will enable the Armenian NPP to be operational until 2036.
The preparation for the annealing work took nearly one and a half years. Now, the equipment designated for the annealing has been installed in the body of the reactor, final inspections have been completed, and heating has begun.
