25-Year-Old Dies After Major Car Accident
On July 22, 25-year-old Hayk Poghosyan from Yerevan passed away in the intensive care unit of the National Burn Center. According to shamshyan.com, he had been transferred there on July 16 after being involved in a car accident caused by a GAZelle vehicle driven by 21-year-old Narek Nazaryan, which occurred while exiting the Dilijan tunnel on the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway.
Following the accident, a fire broke out in the vehicle, resulting in both N. Nazaryan and H. Poghosyan being hospitalized with varying degrees of burns. Sources indicate that the deceased and the injured worked for the ‘ALEKS HOLDING’ LLC, registered on Tichina Street in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district, owned by former MP and businessman Samvel Aleksanyan, known as “Lfik Samo.” N. Nazaryan was employed as a driver-deliverer.
Earlier reports from the scene by a photojournalist stated that a significant car accident and fire occurred in the Gegharkunik region. Around 14:50, a GAZelle cargo vehicle, traveling on the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway near the 80 km mark, exited the road, collided with metal barriers, and partly fell into a gorge. As a result of the accident, two individuals were transferred to the ‘Sevan’ medical center with varying degrees of burns, as a fire had erupted in the vehicle due to the collision. The injured were later moved from the Sevan medical center to Yerevan, with one in extremely critical condition and the other in serious but stable condition.
