Investigators Provide Details on Armed Robbery Incident in Gyumri

On July 21, 2021, at 4:45 AM, authorities received a report from a resident of Gyumri about gunshots heard at approximately 4:35 AM that same day.

An investigative-operational group was promptly dispatched to the scene. Following immediate investigative actions and collaborative operational-search measures with the police of the Republic of Armenia, several details have been uncovered.

According to preliminary information, at around 4:30 AM on July 21, a masked and armed individual allegedly committed a crime by forcibly entering a residence on Paronyan Street in Gyumri through a window of the bedroom. This act roused the couple sleeping in the room, and while threatening them with a firearm, the assailant demanded money and valuables. After stealing the money presented by the homeowner, the perpetrator shot the homeowner in the lower limb before fleeing the scene. The homeowner was subsequently transported to a medical facility with injuries.

A criminal case has been initiated under the third part of Article 175, point 3 of the RA Criminal Code at the Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia. The initial investigation has been assigned to a dedicated investigative group. The couple has been recognized as victims and has provided testimony regarding the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
