Aghazaryan: I have been receiving calls since last night, urging us to go and stand beside the young soldiers, but I've said there’s no need
The situation is tense, but relatively calm at this moment, everything is conditioned by the overall tension. This was stated by Hovik Aghazaryan, a deputy elected from the Ararat region representing the 'My Step' faction, in an interview with ArmDaily.am.
“Our enemies, it seems, do not miss opportunities to create so-called hotspots here or there, but I must say, in honor of our boys, everything is under control,” said the deputy.
It was reported today that Radik Oghikyan, the head of the Yeraskh community, sustained gunshot wounds yesterday during a firefight while he was organizing efforts to extinguish a fire that broke out due to the actions of Azerbaijanis in the area.
Aghazaryan noted that he had been in Yeraskh after the incidents, and concerning the mayor’s injury, he was wounded while trying to extinguish the fire of protective fortifications.
“This was simply when the protective car tires placed in the border areas caught fire. He approached to put out that fire, and that’s when he got injured. These are car tires that are positioned in our positions to protect against enemy bullets; they are fire hazardous, but they do not present any horrendous risk, and there are no other serious injuries; it was neither close to the settlement nor anything else,” said Aghazaryan, adding that, apart from the mayor, there are currently no other injuries.
The deputy has participated in the self-defense battles of Yeraskhavan and has been the commander of the Surenavan volunteer detachment. In response to our question about whether he has met with soldiers to share his life experience, Aghazaryan replied: “Our soldiers are well-prepared. Back when we served, we were not prepared; everything was spontaneous. But now everything is structured in the army. I have many friends who have been calling me since last night; they are around my age or a bit younger, saying, 'Mr. Aghazaryan, let’s go there and stand beside the young ones,' but I have said there’s no need for that. The military units are responsibly fulfilling their duties as assigned, and therefore we should not give it that kind of tone. God forbid, if the time comes, our boys are ready to stand beside our soldier now.”
