What is the Cause of Storks' Pollution? The Ministry of Environment Provides Clarifications

The Acting Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, Romanos Petrosyan, has noted on Facebook that the issue of storks' pollution is within the focus of his ministry. He stated that considering the incidents of pollution of storks with unknown substances in the last two years, it has been determined that the waste from fish farms present in the landfill of Masis city is a possible source of pollution, according to studies by the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body.

The ministry has written to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, requesting consistent oversight of the sanitary-hygienic condition of waste at the Masis municipal landfill and the adherence to waste disposal norms by private fish farms. They also urged the implementation of works for the cleaning of drainage systems in these areas and the removal of accumulated materials.

The ministry has sent letters to the administrations of Armavir and Ararat provinces, urging them to monitor new waste accumulations outside the community landfills in these regions and the presence of fish farm waste, and to inform the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body about any recorded incidents.
