Three Mayors in Lori Region Resign Voluntarily
Just days after the elections, three mayors in the Lori region have resigned from their positions voluntarily. Andranik Harutyunyan, who had led the Hartagyugh community for 34 years, has decided to engage in business, stating in an interview with NEWS.am that he will start producing concentrated animal feed in a week.
When asked why he resigned immediately after the elections, Harutyunyan replied that it was merely a coincidence and that no one guided him to do so. “I had the desire to leave six months ago; it just coincided with the elections. No one could have forced me to resign,” he noted.
According to Harutyunyan, the Civil Contract party won in his community with 62%. Following them was the Armenia Alliance with 20%. He assured that he has never been a party member and did not support any political team during the elections.
The current acting community head is Harutyun Sarkisyan, who, according to Harutyunyan, is an active supporter of the Civil Contract party.
The reason for the resignation of Martiros Truzyan, the former acting head of the Nor Khachakap community, was also to start in agricultural business. Truzyan had been in office for one year and resigned on June 25. The Armenia Alliance won in Nor Khachakap with 38%, followed closely by the Civil Contract party.
Truzyan stated that although he is not a party member, he supports the Civil Contract party: “I applied to join the party last year, but they have not confirmed my membership yet.” The new acting official replacing Truzyan is non-partisan.
Arthur Saroyan, mayor of Saralanj for 31 years, also indicated that he resigned due to health issues. “I simply am not capable of working physically. No one from the regional administration could have told me to resign; I submitted my application voluntarily,” he said.
The former mayor added that from the 50 households in the Saralanj community, 92 voters participated in the elections. The Honor and Dignity Alliance won by a few votes over the Civil Contract party. Saroyan emphasized that he belongs to no political force.
The former administrative heads of the three villages in Lori shared that their last meeting with the regional governor was much earlier before the elections to discuss practical matters.
