First Death Reported in China Due to Monkey B Virus
A death from the Monkey B Virus (B Virus) has been reported in China, marking the first such incident among humans. According to Global Times, the victim was a 53-year-old veterinarian from Beijing.
It is noted that the Chinese national carried out an autopsy on two monkeys in early March as part of his research experiment. A month later, he began to exhibit symptoms of nausea and fever. He passed away on May 27.
Studies confirmed that the veterinarian was infected with the Monkey B Virus (BV). Previously, there had been no clinically manifested cases of mortality or infection from this virus recorded in China.
Reports indicate that the virus was not detected in the man’s relatives.
The Monkey B Virus became known in 1932 and can be transmitted through direct contact with infected monkeys.
